One part of the lecture that stood out was the concept of the
portable hairdressing salon. This is similar to our groups initial suburban
scenario of portable shopfronts. It basically fits in with our idea of de-centralising
market space. Yet when I think about, a hairdressing salon is a place where a
customer goes to get a certain item (a haircut). When this is compared to a
storefront, where a customer also goes to get a certain item they desire, yet
having a mobile hairdressing salon is a concept that seems much more pragmatic.
It would be convenient for most clients to be able to have their hairdresser
come to their house rather than to a retail store. Yet it would be not so practical
for an actual retail store to come to someone’s house. I think this is why we
did not go forward with this concept from week 2.
