Week 5 Design Charrette - Architectural Opportunities

I found this weeks task the most challenging so far. I think it would be fair to say that even our whole group showed signs that we weren’t to confident with what we achieved. Architectural possibilities are somewhat difficult to conceive because they are not perfectly transitioned from concept development into built form.  Because of our concept of a process and not a final scenario, an idea of a built form has to also evolve over a period of time. The intelligent infrastructure systems greatly affect the outcome of the architectural possibilities. As newer technologies and systems become available overtime, the building adapts and morphs taking in all the new changes and updates.
The future scenario of intelligent infrastructure systems basically encompasses the following:

   -  Energy
   -  Synthetic Consumables
   -  Transport
   -  Digital fabrication
   -  Mass customisation
   -  Education
   -  Social event networking
These systems are taken into affect during the buildings ‘life cycle’. Initially, the introduction of  a virtual and digital store would free up urban space as remote work became more feasible. We would see the reduction in stores actually stocking products as shopping became a digital task, where the products get delivered as to a customer’s preference. This in turn creates the storefront as being a digital showcase space where products are free to be tested by the public. From this we journeyed into the idea of rental retail space, where instead of the public adapting to what a store had to offer, the store adapted to what the public desired. When technology progresses, these spaces become mass customisation centers, where the storefonts become entirely adaptive to the individual user, promoting the user to design, create, learn and interact.
