Week 9 Tutorial

It is hard to ignore the rich history of Paddington, shown through its old rustic Queenslander homes and storefronts (some of which are antique stores). The large amount of local traders is another aspect of Paddington that I want to further utilise and bring together in the community. This would be done through the inclusion of an events hub that could be used to promote brands and local businesses within the community. This events hub would be an educational, interactive social space where certain events could be held, such as classes or events, primarily focused on community traders. It could be looked at as being another form of marketing and promotion of goods within Paddington. This events hub is essentially acting as a catalyst for other uses within the building, such as the retail sector as well as research centre.

I also mentioned the concept from the lecture of a ‘minimal solution’ and compared it to what already exists within Paddington and especially Paddington Centre. Both the tutor and I both agreed that while was is already there works well within the community, and that an intervention of a ‘minimal solution’ would make an architect somewhat redundant. The concept of ‘minimal solutions’ somewhat questions the need for a major design intervention. So for the case of this assignment, I think it is best that I ignore this ‘minimal solutions’ concept.
